Conception and project management
Context and challenges :
An emblem of Mons political life, and classified as an exceptional heritage site in 1936, Mons Town Hall has been a witness to the city’s history since its construction in the 14th century. A place where political decisions have been taken for over five centuries, the Gothic building is currently undergoing a major restoration campaign, both inside and out. In addition to the strictly heritage restoration work, the interior renovation project also includes a cultural and tourist component, through the creation of a new museum trail and the deployment of functions that will cohabit with the building’s daily life.
Our role :
Overall project support through to turnkey delivery:
- Assessment of the current situation, benchmarking, definition of the positioning of the future cultural facility ;
- Elaboration of the concept with definition and scenarization of the visit itinerary ;
- Development of the museographic program ;
- Drafting of special technical specifications and selection of design-build contractors-Project management assistance until delivery of the project.
Impact and follow-up :
A global project for a forward-looking theme: the creation of citizen cultural venues. Beyond the opening of a new tourist venue, the ambition of this project is both democratic and societal: to make a historic and emblematic institutional site accessible to the public, and to open it up to contemporary issues, while maintaining its original function.
