Study to convert La Grave hospital into a multidisciplinary cultural center

Client: City of Toulouse

2020 – 2021
Creation of a cultural site, programming, economic model, marketing & communication

Context:

The city of Toulouse wants to turn the site of La Grave, former hospital of the 17th century which represents a symbolic historical and architectural heritage, into a living space dedicated to cultural and creative Industries (ICC) open to surrounding residents. This future “Cité des Arts” must participate in the global transformation of the neighborhood of Saint Cyprien as an extension at the heart of the city. Beaux Arts Consulting, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS, and the Encore Heureux architecture firm were tasked to design a cultural project with international ambitions that would favor the appropriation of the site by residents and allow a multiplicity of uses and contents.

Tasks:

  • Analysis of the first approaches of the project and field study,
  • Definition of a common vision for the project centered around hospitality, in connection with the history of the site of La Grave,
  • Proposal of a detailed cultural project by confronting spatial and urban qualities of the site with the programming aspirations of the city of Toulouse, with the aim of developing a “grounded” project and a multipurpose living space,
  • Conception of an economic model aligned with programming,
  • Outline of the communication strategy.
